Mediterranean atmosphere

IN THE HEART OF PÉCS SINCE 1996

In the beginning of the 19th century, the palace used to be the ‘White Elephant Tavern’ and later it was home for a grocery shop called ‘For the Black Elephant’ in the 1870s. For almost three decades, the Restaurant & Pizzeria All’Elefante has been following the traditions of the Jókai square which is well-known for its great cuisine. What makes us unique is not only our location, but also the ingredients that we use and are coming directly from Italy: let it be a plate of fresh seafood or one of our homemade pasta, if you taste it, you’ll feel a little Italy inside!

Our Restaurant & Pizzeria All’Elefante is located in Jókai tér which is ‘the most mediterranean’ square of Pécs, just a few steps away from the main Széchenyi square. Most famous for its pleasant spring nights and vibrant summer evenings which is why a must see to everyone visiting the city!

My love for Italy has been going on for more than 40 years.

My affection and interest for Italian cuisine dates back to Germany where I worked for 10 years in Italian restaurants. My time in Munich served me well in establishing a strong basis for getting familiar with the gastronomy of this beautiful country. Entering the world of the different types of pasta, the making of pizza, and getting to know ingredients that had been unknown to me before - this experience changed my life forever.

Anywhere we go in the world, there is always an Italian food experience offered, therefore, I also wanted to create a slice of Dolce Vita in the center of Pécs with the opening of a top-notch restaurant. The Mediterranean atmosphere was already given by the location and I do believe that we managed to fulfill this goal!

Our Story with the Neapolitan Pizza

We strongly believe in continuous improvement, therefore we invest heavily in keeping our team members’ knowledge up to date. As a result, we ended up packing our suitcases and visiting the ultimate master of Neapolitan pizza, Enzo Coccia: everything we know, we learned from him in Naples!

Once we were in Naples, our team learned diligently to meet the high standards of making the famous pizza: it’s well-known that there are extremely strict rules in place set by the Neapolitan Pizza Association.

As a result, we can proudly say that we are the third location in Hungary which holds the honourable title of making the AVPN CERTIFIED PIZZA - the very first among the countryside restaurants!

We also like being physically active, but our efforts are mostly concentrated in our kitchen, where we knead our dough making different types of fresh pasta!

As widely known, pasta give the basis of the Italian cuisine, therefore we honor those wonderfully heartfelt dishes by only using selected, 100% Made in Italy ingredients and choosing traditional recipes.

Our menu includes classics such as spaghetti, tagliatelle and ravioli, but we definitely love experimenting with new flavours and combinations. All our pasta is served fresh so that we could give you the real food experience.

Why Enzo Coccia?

From Japan across Canada to India, Africa and the US a great deal of people have been visiting Enzo to learn the ancient profession of making the original, puffy, yet crispy-edged pizza.

We aimed to choose a master who not only has the skillset to teach us how to make the best Neapolitan pizza but is also greatly passionate about his profession and cultivate it on the highest levels. So, we chose the world famous pizza craftsman, Enzo Coccia. Well, we didn’t regret our decision at all!

It was uplifting to learn under his tutelage, as he passed on his knowledge to us with incredible depth and commitment to high quality and the original craftsmanship.

We proudly declare that our professional journey has achieved its end goal - we brought the original Neapolitan pizza to Pécs!

This fact alone is a pleasure, but it’s also a special honour to be recognised professionally by the Neapolitan Pizza Association. Now that we stand before you with the credibility and a sense of progress, we look forward to welcoming you with a big and proud smile!

Filled with inspiration from the mind-blowing flavors of Naples and with the knowledge of the essential techniques of the pizza craftsmanship, we aim to offer you a mouthful of Dolce Vita here, in the Restaurant & Pizzeria All’Elefante!
